"Everyone is friendly and willing to help!"
Home

There are no provisions to join our club, just the willingness to represent the club in a positive manner.  We do not require any performance standards or require that you have been a previous member of a cross country or track and field team.  If you would like to join please see our Contacts page and e-mail one of the coaches.

Check out our workout itinerary for the weekly schedule of practices and come to any team practices that you like.  If unable to join us for team practices then you may do your own workouts using our guidelines if you desire.

After you have been confirmed as a member you will receive meet information via e-mail on a weekly basis.  Simply respond to the e-mail to get signed up for a meet.  You will then be sent travel information for that meet (carpool, etc.).

New members who are non-UWM students, please see the information below...

I.  Returning members who have earned coverage through summer fundraising efforts

1a.  Non-UWM student returning members who have participated in the 2010 GMTC summer fundraiser efforts and have earned the respective amount of points (3 points), will be waived of incurring fees throughout the 2010-2011 GMTC cross country and track seasons; those fees pertaining to membership, meets, travel, hotel accommodations, and indoor facility usage relating to track and field practicing only (i.e. not for playing other sports such as basketball, general fitness, etc).

1b.  UWM student returning members who have participated in the 2010 GMTC summer fundraiser efforts and have earned the respective amount of points (3 points), will be waived of incurring fees throughout the 2010-2011 GMTC cross country and track seasons; those fees pertaining to membership, meets, travel, hotel accommodations, and indoor facility usage outside of the UWM Klotsche Center relating to track and field practicing only (Klotsche Center membership is free for UWM students).  If in the event you do not need to use another indoor facility other than the UWM Klotsche Center, you may be eligible to receive track and field attire courtesy of the track club (per discretion of the GMTC club council), but must demonstrate a "strong commitment" to the GMTC-UWM student organization to receive this perk (details regarding the GMTC-UWM student organization will be explained further below).

II.  Returning members who have not earned coverage through summer fundraising efforts

2a.   Non-UWM student returning members who have elected not to participate in the 2010 GMTC summer fundraiser efforts and/or have not earned the respective amount of points (3 points), will be responsible for paying a membership fee of $25, which will be due by September 30, 2010, for those participating in cross country, and November 30, 2010, for those participating in track.  The membership fee is good for the whole 2010-2011 cross country and track seasons.
The purpose for the membership fee is to help support the club's miscellaneous expenses, such as the website fees, track and field equipment purchase and maintenance, USATF annual club "recognition" membership fee, club vehicle maintenance costs, t-shirt orders, etc.  A GMTC t-shirt will be given to you upon your payment.
The membership fees does not include meet coverage, travel (or your percentage of fuel costs if carpooling), hotel accommodations (or your percentage if sharing a room), and indoor facility usage fees.  You will be responsible for all those fees previously listed.
The membership fee can be refunded, but only if you participate in the 2011 GMTC summer fundraiser efforts and earn the respective points needed.

2b.  UWM student returning members who have elected not to participate in the 2010 GMTC summer fundraiser efforts and/or have not earned the respective amount of points (3 points), will be responsible for paying a membership fee of $25, which will be due by September 30, 2010, for those participating in cross country, and November 30, 2010, for those participating in track.  The membership fee is good for the whole 2010-2011 cross country and track seasons.  However, if you demonstrate a "strong commitment" to the GMTC-UWM student organization, you will be waived of this fee (details regarding the GMTC-UWM student organization will be explained further below).  Otherwise, the membership fee can also be refunded if you participate in the 2011 GMTC summer fundraiser efforts and earn the respective points needed.

You would be eligible though for a refund of 50% of what you did pay into the 2010-2011 GMTC cross country and track seasons, as well as a refund of the GMTC membership fee, if you participate in the 2011 GMTC summer fundraiser efforts and earn the respective points needed.

IV.  About GMTC University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Student Organization

Any UWM student carrying 6 or more credits per semester would be eligible to represent the GMTC UWM student organization.  GMTC must have a student organization chapter in order to reserve time for using the UWM Klotsche Center track during the indoor season, as well as to lobby for additional funds through the UWM student activities office (which those funds could benefit by assisting in providing some meet coverage for new UWM student members who still have to pay 50%, or returning UWM student members who haven't earned coverage through the 2010 GMTC summer fundraising efforts).
The way to become part of the GMTC UWM student organization is to provide your student ID to the student president of the organization when he/she requests it (or immediately upon your joining the club).
You also must attend 50% of the meets and/or practices to demonstrate "strong commitment" to the GMTC UWM student organization, which would qualify you for having your GMTC membership fee waived if you are a new student and/or returning student who have not earned coverage through the 2010 GMTC summer fundraising efforts.  Note:  GMTC does understand personal scheduling conflicts with our practice times and/or meet days, so demonstrating a "strong commitment" will also be at the discretion of the club coordinator (Ken Woodall), and the best way to stay in "favor" of Ken's discretion is to keep good communication with him (i.e. responding to his e-mails and/or calls, etc).

V.  GMTC Fundraising Efforts

GMTC has successfully functioned for over 5 years from club members' fundraising efforts.  The way we fundraise is through working at Miller Park Park during the Brewers' baseball season in our own concession stand for 10-12 games throughout the season, with a minimum of 10 people needed per game.  After trying various other ways, working at Miller Park is the best and simpliest way to earn the most funds per cross country and track season.
Every February GMTC will call on you to sign up and participate.  The scale of how many games each individual would have to work depends on how many sign up and are willing to work.  The more people we have to work, the less games each individual would need to work to earn full coverage for the following cross country and track season (example:  If 60 people sign up and work, then each individual would only need to work 2 games for full coverage).
You can opt not to fundraise and remain a club member, but understand that you will not receive any coverage for the following cross country and track seasons from GMTC, and you would have to pay the annual membership fee.
